Biologically Inspired Robotic Experiments on Interaction and Dynamic Agent-environment Couplings

چکیده
The rst part of this paper addresses Artiicial Life as an example of biologically inspired research. I discuss the general methodology and propose an interactive approach towards studying interactions and couplings of an agent within its social and non-social environment. Believ-ability and embodiment are introduced as central concepts to this approach. The second part of this paper gives four examples of agent-environment interactions along my research on socially intelligent agents. I report on ecological experiments with robots and simulated agents which are carefully adapted to their environment. Adaptation comprises both the design of the agent's `morphology', as well as the dynamic coupling which results from the link agent/environment and control program. The dynamic agent-environment coupling is implemented with a behaviour-orientated, parallel control architecture .

Attitude Estimation of a Biologically Inspired Robotic Housefly via Multimodal Sensor Fusion
In this paper, we address sensor fusion for the attitude estimation of Micromechanical Aerial Vehicles (MAVs), in particular a biologically inspired robotic housefly. First, a dynamic observer is proposed which estimates attitude based on kinematic data available from different and redundant bio-inspired sensors such as halteres, ocelli, gravitometers, magnetic compass and light polarization co...
متن کاملDynamic modeling and control of a 4 DOF robotic finger using adaptive-robust and adaptive-neural controllers
In this research, first, kinematic and dynamic equations of a 4-DOF 3-link robotic finger are derived using Denavit-Hartenberg convention and Lagrange’s formulation. To model the muscles, several springs and dampers are placed between the finger links. Then, two advanced controllers, namely adaptive-robust and adaptive-neural, which can control the robotic finger in presence of parametric uncer...
متن کاملBiologically Inspired Methods for Agile Command and Control (BIO C2)
In a dynamic and complex environment, agile command and control responses are needed to handle both conventional and asymmetric challenges. Agile command and control is particularly difficult due to the necessity of cross-scale interaction. The technical idea is to develop biologically inspired methods based on individual behavior to population response dynamics to facilitate cross-scale intera...

This work has explored the adaptive potential of simulated swarm robots that contain a genomic encoding of a bio-inspired gene regulatory network (GRN). An artificial genome is combined with a flexible agent-based system, representing the activated part of the regulatory network that transduces environmental cues into phenotypic behavior. Using an Alife simulation framework that mimics a changi...

In fact, many researchers have dealt with these fields individually as inherent research approaches. However although these strategies have performed independently in robotics fields, these approaches are key matters connected with our objective. Although recently many humanoid robots have made their successful debut, they are still very difficult to control. Thus they may not behave as expecte...
